Beverley Friary

The Friary

In 1263 Henry III gave the Dominican or Black Friars of Beverley 15 Oaks from the Forest of Galtres for building their Friary.  The Dominicans specialized in teaching and preaching.

Their Friary, like many other monasteries was seized by Henry VIII in 1539.  Today the Friary is used as a Youth Hostel and venue for exhibitions, folk festival events etc,
